Okura Oriental Art Blog

Although Okura Oriental Art will not participate this time, Annual International Bazaar will be held at TAC.  I am planning to visit there to look for something nice:

東京アメリカンクラブにて毎年行われるInternational Bazaar がまもなく開催されます。

今回、当店は出店しませんが、遊びに行く予定・・・・。　何か良いモノ見つかるかも！

This is a beautiful room of Mr. X.  The set of Wajima Laquered Byobu Screen and the Coffee Table is from Okura Oriental Art.  There are gorgeous carps swimming in the picture.  Anythingelse, we admire the way Mr. X arranged this room, it is breathtakingly beautiful!  He put hundreds of picture frames ( enormous collections!) by himself, one by one.  This VERY big apartment is like an art gallery, or more than that.  More pictures will be on our Interior Decorating page very soon!!

輪島塗のテーブル＆屏風をご購入いただいたMr.Xのリビングルーム。落ち着いたトーンで構成されているため、派手な印象にはならずとても素敵にまとまりました。

しかし、広い・・・・

ご自身の手でテーマ、大きさ、配置を決め某大な数の絵画が壁一面飾られました。

絵を飾るプロにでもなればどうですか？と話すと　「そんな職業があればなりたいけどあるわけないだろ！」と笑いながら答えていました　

この広い家に1人暮らしというのがなんとも羨ましい・・・・・。

広いリビング、エントランス、長い廊下、寝室とまるでギャラリーの様な雰囲気。圧巻

We have updated our Interior Decorating page!

We tried to decorate the house with exposed concrete.  Do you think we could successfully add the warmth to this house with the Japanese Antiques?  The floor plan was so narrow and long that it looked difficult to make the space for confortable use.  We made efforts for a pleasant life: we put an old Tansu in seemingly the dead space, and arranged the dining table also as to serve as a working desk, etc.  Please take a look at our page for more pictures: http://www.okura-art.com/showroom.html

This is the photo of the most precious rice in Japan, "Koshihikari Made in Uonuma!!"  I really appreciate my friend who sent it to us.  Yes, very big, it would have cost a lot if I tried to buy this in Tokyo.  I feel I am very happy to be born as a Japanese when I have such a nice rice, , , I think this is also true to all the Japanese.

Today,Tokyo was hit by the very big typhoon just in the commuter rush hour.  And we were somehow hanging loose because we thought there would be no customers to visit us on a day like this.  BUT, to our surprise and very fortunately, we had many phone calls and visits.  It turned out to be a busy day.  I remembered the day we had heavy snow in Tokyo and we found a customer in front of our shop before the opening hour. . . OK, from today on, we will be ready for many customers especially on the bad weather days.  Many thanks for those who came to our shop today!!!

今朝の東京、通勤時間帯に台風直撃でした！

お店の前はあちこちから飛んできた様々な物体があっち行ったりこっちいったり・・・・。

テラスのトネリコは鉢ごと根こそぎ吹っ飛びそうな勢い

今日はお客さまも来ないだろうと思い、呑気に構えていたら大間違いでした

朝からお問い合わせの電話、ご来店のお客さま（なぜか複数同時にご来店されるんですね）

夕方には２件の配達とまるで店の中に台風が吹き荒れた状態になりテンテコ舞の一日でした

以前は大雪の朝、凍えながらお店のオープンを待っていた方もいました・・・・・。

悪天候であればあるほど、購買意欲がフツフツとわいてきてしまうのかな

He does very good job to show the original color on the antique furniture and leaves the taste of the age on it.  Of course, he does the carpenter's work and cleans inside completely for the comfortable use.  I hope our customers will be satisfied with all of it and they will use it forever...

小物では九谷の菓子器（非常に細かく緻密な細工です）馬上盃、染付なます皿、総欅硯箱（玉杢が美しい！）、遠州行灯（ペアで共箱付き）、漆の沈金重箱、銅灯籠、等々、思うまま脈絡なく集めてきました・・・・・。

集めるために費やしたお金は数百万円とのこと・・・・。キティグッズを購入する時は値札見ないそうです。恐るべし

やり過ぎはどうかと思いますが、好きなモノに囲まれているとなんだか安心するのは確かです。

皆さんほどほどに・・・・・。

We went to Tomioka antique flea market with my American friends today. The weather was fine with a clear sky!!  I love to go to the shrine for walking and browsing in the market. It was my purpose to go to the pickle restaurant 'Kintame' and enjoyed Teishoku(lunch) very much!! After that, I bought some Tsukemono(pickles) and I was so lucky to get them in the good price because my friends have been the good customers of the shop.  People at the shop still remembered them and welcomed us so warmly.  How nice a man of deep humanity in downtown is ! There is no barrier between nations when we can remain in open minded like them. I think I found a very important thing in this short trip.

今日は朝からアメリカ人の親友と一緒に富岡八幡の骨董市へ遊びにいきました。天気も上々

わざわざこの骨董市へ来るために来日した親友夫婦は早速物色開始

私のお目当ては近為のランチでしたから見物は早々に切り上げ・・・・

今日は銀だらの粕漬け定食　　漬物食べ放題　おいしかった～っ

お土産に数点漬物を購入したのですが、夫婦はこの店の常連なので、連れの私まで少しオマケまでしてもらっちゃいました。　

日本人の私よりお店の方と親密でなんだか複雑な気持ち・・・・・。

外国人にも伝わる下町の人情、異文化交流！

OKURA　ORIENTAL  ART

My American friends who moved to Hong Kong came back to visit Tokyo yesterday. They are  like Japanese people .... love Sumo (loves 'Kaio'), Shogi, Natto, Soba... And Japanese Pottery.  We used to go to the pottery class together. Her works have been introduced on this blog before.  We will go to Tomioka-hachiman Antique Flea Market tomorrow morning and have lunch near it.  They like 'Kintame' Japanese pickle shop close to the market.  There is always a long line and we will have to wait for 20~30 min. However, the food is worth waiting for 1 hour!!

It is very interesting that they are more Japanese than I!!

香港へ引っ越ししてしまったアメリカ人の親友が久しぶりに日本へ戻ってきました。

相撲が大好きでお気に入りの力士は魁皇　彼女もまた日本が大好きで、各地の骨董市や窯元めぐりが趣味で私と一緒に陶芸教室へ通っていたほどです。

温泉、日本食大好き！　今回も富岡八幡の骨董市に合わせての来日　

気合入ってます

富岡八幡の門前に近為という漬物屋があるのですが、そこを教えてくれたのも彼女

このお店、実においしい　いつも混雑していてなかなか入れないのですが、彼女はこの店に行くのも今回の重要な目的の一つだそうです。

日本人の私たちが忘れてしまったなにかを彼女は教えてくれます。

なにはともあれ、明日の早朝、富岡八幡へ出撃～っ
