We can find exquisite and luxurious houses of old days. This is the photo of the house of the former Prime Minister, Korekiyo Takahashi(1854 - 1836.) Glass was extremely expensive in old Japan, but here we find the corridor, all of the window panels are filled with glass. We call this type, 'yura-yura glass' meaning flickering glasses. This house was moved from Akasaka and reconstructed here in Tatemono-en. 昔の家やお店は凝った造りが多く見ることが出来ます。たとえば、高橋是清邸の廊下。 ガラスが貴重であったであろう時代、なんと全面に使用しています。今では懐かしい 通称ゆらゆらガラス。 赤坂にあった是清邸を移築保存しています。
This is a beautiful Shoji-window, the design adapted from the one in Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto.

This is the Stationery shop. Amazingly well organized chests and drawers. Unlike us, it must have been easy to take inventory. Please excuse my poor technique of photography.
