Today's Okura

I bought a table cloth of navy blue and beige gingham check in Karuizawa last week and enjoyed thinking about which tableware and cutlery would be nice or a rattan bread basket should be good with it.

I usually use table mat for each person at home because it is easy to wash and replace it.  It takes much time to wash and iron the table cloth, but it's worth using it!!  Table cloth makes everything on the table attractive!

Today, I tried to use the table cloth at the window display.  I hope the people who pass by feel fresh to see it during the worst of the heat

先日軽井沢で自宅用に購入した紺とベージュのギンガムチェックのテーブルクロス。　合わせる食器やカトラリー、籐のバスケットを使っても夏らしくていいかも・・・、と楽しく思いをめぐらせていました。

いつも使っているのは一人ずつのテーブルマット。　テーブルクロスはお洗濯やアイロンがけが面倒ではありますが、食卓が華やぐので時々楽しんでいます。　

今日はちょっとした冒険で骨董品と合わせてウィンドウにテーブルセッティングをしてみました。　この酷暑の中、道行く人々がほんの少し爽やかな気分になりますように・・・。

A Heat Wave! / 夏が来た！

It's been extremely HOT , really with the terrible heat in Japan since the end of the rainy season was announced a few days ago.  However, I would tell you that the heat near the ocean is somewhat different.  As dusk falls, the heat would be calmed down by the cool ocean breeze, then the beautiful sunset would cover the sky.  Often I become absorbed in gazing at the the sky; the sky changes its color every moment, and I feel that nothing can be more beautiful than it. . . . today, I was lucky I saw the Mt.Fuji a long way off. 

暑さはこたえますが、鬱陶しい梅雨がようやく終わり、本格的な夏の到来

同じ暑さでも海に近い場所だと感じ方がまた違うもの。

夕方になれば涼しい風が吹き抜け、空はご覧のように美しく染まります。

ボ～っとして見ていると刻一刻その表情が変化　　何と美しいのでしょう・・・・・

この日は遠くに富士山の姿も

どんな状況でも絵になりますね　

The Roly-Poly Man/ 七転び八起き

As you know, Daruma is a roly-poly papier-mache doll modeled after the Indian Buddhist monk Bodhidarma who founded Zen Buddhism.   People who have desires buy daruma dolls hoping they will improve their endurance and that, like the roly-poly man which may fall seven times, they can rise again eight times.  I like this positve thought.

Today, I introduce very handsome guys in our shop.  They are all expressive!! 

I have a friend who publishes Daruma magazine which is very popular for Japanese antique lovers.  She introduces many Daruma on the recent issue 67, and you will know more about it!!

Pleasure in traveling / やめられない。止まらない。

Although it was a rainy weekend, we went to Karuizawa again and had a big fun as always.  Since we couldn't spend time outside, we decided to visit Saku, the neighbor town.  Our destination was a Soba(noodle) shop. . . . There we found both thick Soba and very thin Soba.  I knew that thick ones usually tend to be dry and crumbled.   However, this one here was Excellent!  It was very nicely chewy and tasty     I would say that the thin soba was not my type, but I was again satisfied with the " Sweetened and Jellied Bean Paste with Chestnut, made of Buckwheet."  I know I always take pleasure in anything I find while traveling, namely, in tasting the foods. 

休暇を利用して軽井沢へ・・・・・・・・・

梅雨真っ最中なので天気はイマイチですが、それでも色々と楽しめるのが軽井沢

ちょっと足を延ばして、佐久方面へドライブ。お目当ては　美味しい蕎麦　

以前から気になっていたのですが、今回、天気が悪く外で遊ぶことが出来なかったので逆に絶好のタイミング

やけに太い蕎麦と頼りないほど細い蕎麦の組み合わせ　　太い蕎麦はボソボソ感がでがちですがコレはイケる　噛みごたえ十分　

逆に細い方は物足りなさが・・・・・

最後に出てきたのは蕎麦粉を使った栗ようかん　　甘味好きにはたまらない一品　

ペロッと平らげてしまいました

　

My favorite artist 'Rie Okabayashi'

An Artist, Rie Okabayashi, is my neighbor.  I see her from time to time, and it's my pleasure to look at her beautiful artworks on the website　http://rie-okabayashi.com/works.html.  Today, I was luckily invited to her atelier and had a wonderful opportunity to enjoy her works　 I could feel her good sense of balance and gentle personality through the works in the gallery on her website.  But when I see them directly, I notice the limitation of showing the images on the website.  All of her works have very sensitive brushwork and I admired the beauty on the layers of her subtle strokes. I have never seen such beautiful colors on ' Sumi-e'.  I could see her outstanding skill to controll brush strokes and shade with the ink.  I'm sure that her works and antiques will match very well each other!!

I will continue to introduce her works again....

The Sweet Surprise! / 素敵な贈り物！

It was truly a wonderful surprise!  One of our customers, who built her new house recently, kindly sent me these mangoes.  ( Thank you very much Mrs. G )  These are not the ordinary mangoes --- astonishing, I was deeply moved, and I just wanted to keep my happiness forever and took this picture. . . but it's a shame, you can't taste it. . .

For a Cool Air. . . / 気分だけでも涼しげに・・・・・

Isn't it too hot and humid??  I don't know I can survive this summer if it gets hotter anymore.

I hung the Fuhrin-wind bell, in an attempt to feel the cool air.  This Fuhrin is made in Suruga(=Shizuoka pref,) it is called Suruga Bamboo Work.  Cricket cage made in Suruga since the Edo period is famous, but I didn't know about the Fuhrin.  I admire all the crafts of Suruga Bamboo Work, because it needs an incredible technique and enormous time.  Today, we can buy them just by one crick through the internet, , , ,it's convenient and at the same time a bit sad, , , but anyway, I bought one and changed the strip of paper from the original one to the Ise Paper Pattern(for Kimono) for its better looking.  Hope our customer will like it and feel a pleasant coolness!!

あまりの暑さ、湿気の多さにヘトヘトな今日この頃・・・

こんな状態で夏本番を乗り切れるのか一抹の不安がよぎります。

気分だけでも涼しくなろうと、風鈴を軒先に吊るしてみました。

駿河竹細工で作られた風鈴。　虫籠は江戸時代より作られていたようですが、、最近はこのようなモノもつくっているんですね。

今でも手作りで丁寧に作られているようです。

このような伝統工芸品もいまではインターネットでカンタンにお買いもの可能　

「ポチッ」と注文しました。　

しかし、新品というのは私のお店にはどうもしっくりこないので、短冊の部分を大蔵オリエンタルアートの雰囲気に合わせ、伊勢型紙に変更してみました。

Before After: a Chair / 椅子編

At the auction we usually go, we can find many items that we don't deal in our shop.  The other day, I found a very handsome rocking chair, and I made a successful bid

It was dirty and the seat needed to be repaired.  But I was confident of the fine revival from the restoration because it is the made of YAMAHA, I believed in its original quality. . . . I asked Toranomon Shokai, where we have asked for upholstering the chairs and sofas, to restore this chair.  And after a week, it came back!! Please look at the lovely photo of "after." 

Now I am looking forward to the quiet time of reading in this summer.

様々な古いモノが出品される古道具の市場。

時にはお店とは関係ないモノが無性に欲しくなる場合があります。　先日も古いロッキングチェアが出品され、見事に落札

座面はボロボロ、埃だらけで見るも無残な状態でしたが、これはレストアすればきっと使える

と確信　

なにせ、日本楽器製(YAMAHAといったほうがわかりやすいかも・・・）ですから作りはしっかりしています。

早速、お世話になっている虎ノ門商会さんへ持ち込み、張り生地の打ち合わせ。

「空いた時間でやっときます」と快諾　していただきました。

手間ばかりで儲からない仕事でスミマセン・・・・。社長

一週間後、「出来ましたよ～」　と連絡を頂き引き取りに。　う～ん　上出来　早速腰かけてみるとシックリとくる座り心地・・・・

夏休みはこれに座ってゆっくり読書でもしようかな　

What's nice in the rainy Season ??/

It is in the middle of Rainy Season now.  I try to make the humid & uncomfortable days enjoyable, but it is almost impossible.... 

When I visit the very old Japanese garden, I found an old stone frog on the beautiful green moss.  It is the best time to enjoy this green color!!

As we asked the owner of the garden (he is the 14th generation on this land), he said that frog is the real gravestone of frogs!  I don't know whether to use the stone frog in this way is right, but I admired his old family who put it there.

When I switched to the other side of the garden, I found a stone bear in the garden.......

B....BEAR???

Store Rearrangement / 店内レイアウト変更

Every time when we had the customer who wanted our glass cabinet, with which we had been displaying our ceramics, we got in a kind of panic since it meant that we had to find the next cabinet immediately.  Otherwise our ceramics would be spread all over the floor.   It actually happened again last week, and this time, it was so difficult for us to find the new one, whose both upper and lower parts made of glass.   Then we found this Half Glass Cabinet as our last resort, for we can't display all of our ceramics only in its glass part. . . However, isn't this a very beautiful cabinet? 

This is a 1-Ken(1,818m) Tansu.  Frame and drawers are made of solid Keyaki-Zelkova wood, and  the ironwork on the lower part is exceptionally sturdy. And of course the glass is charming, wavering, old glass!    If the space allows, we would strongly recommend you this cabinet!! 

伊万里などを陳列、ストックしておくために、ガラスケースを使用しているのですが、時々「ど～してもコレが欲しい　売って　」と懇願され、大慌てで代替品を探すのですが、そうそうタイミングよく見つかりません。　しかし代わりがなければお店の中は整理がつかなくなり大変なことに・・・・

さて困った・・・・・。　今回ばかりは本当に見つからず陳列スペースは今までの半分になってしまいますが苦肉の策でこのようなケースを入れることになりました

しかし、この一間サイズのケース。

フレームも欅、抽斗や引き戸も欅　金具もかなりシッカリして

ガラス部分はもちろん「ゆらゆらガラス」

う～ん　ビューティフル・・・・

スペースにゆとりがある方、いかがですか？　コレッ

Therese's Hand-Made Towel s / テリーズの手作りタオル

I'm always trying to arrange the rooms soberly and plainly so the antiques look nice.  However, when it comes to the kitchen , , ,  it's totally different.  I would like to put a lot of cute and feminine things.

Just a hand towel alone can make me happy.  These are the towels made by my friend, Therese, who lives in Jiyugaoka.  She attach her hand-made woven strap to the towels sold at the stores.  Her straps can transform a simple towel into a very chic one

Alaffia Fair Trade Basket / アラフィア バスケット

アークヒルズのマルシェに行く度に、ずっと気になっていたバスケット

色は綺麗だし、丈夫そうだし、何といってもマルシェでお買い物するのにとても便利そう。　

そこで手にとってみると店員さんが詳しく商品の説明をして下さいました。このバスケット、水でジャブジャブ洗っても大丈夫

濡れて柔らかくなったときに手で曲げ、その後乾燥させるとその形状のまま使えるんです

気に入った1点を選び、お店へ帰って、ルンルン開店準備

あとでわかったことですが、このバスケットは西アフリカの女性による手作りで、ある基準をクリアした商品であること。　Alaffia　というアメリカの会社は西アフリカの女性達の社会的立場向上＆経済的自立を支援しているそうです

美しい作品を作って売って自立する。素晴らしいことですよね。すべて彼女たちのデザインなので量産品ではなく、全て1点もののアートなのです

I've been thinking to buy this colorful, sturdy basket everytime I go to the Marche at Ark Hills, and finally I got one!  There was a nice shop assistant when I took one on my hand, who explained me about the baskets. We can wash them with water!!  Also, while they are wet and soft, we can rearrange the shape of the baskets!  I learned that these baskets are made by women in West Africa.  They have cleared the very strict Fair Trade standards.  The certificate was given to an American firm, Alaffia, whose aims of establishment are improvement of the status and economical independence of women in West Africa.  It is a wonderful thing that one can become independent by making beautiful handicrafts.  All the baskets are designed and hand-made by the the West African women, so each one is unique.  For more information about the baskets: www.alaffiajapan.com

This morning, I went to the Marche at Ark Hills again and enjoyed morning shopping.  I bought a colorful basket there, but I will write about it next time.  Anyway, I barely managed to open the shop at 9:55 a.m. We brought All Kiri Kannon Tansu into the shop.  Originally, two parts are designed to be piled up but we arranged them side by side.  Two parts look the same from outside, but one has three drawers and the other has four.  H/67.5cm　W/94cm D/49cm

前から気になっていたカラフルな手提げ籠を購入。（これについては別の機会にご紹介します）

開店時間ギリギリセーフの9時59分にお店に戻り、店内商品の入れ替えを行いました。

仕上がったばかりの総桐観音箪笥を搬入　元々は重ね箪笥ですが、例によって横並びにレイアウト

外観は全く同じですが、内部の抽斗の数が三杯と四杯。使いやすそうです。

盆栽趣味？？/ Bonsai??

なんて高尚な趣味はないのですが、昨日骨董屋さんの知り合い、Iさんから、可愛らしいソロの木の鉢植えをいただきました。　なんと種から鉢に植えて、5年でこんな形になったとか・・・。

鉢のまま下に土を置いて育ててあげると、良い環境を保って元気に育つと言われ、器を見つけて植えてみましたが、なんとも風情が感じられません。　う～～ん、瓦にはどうかな・・・・？、と思い植え込んでみました。　いかにも素人が適当にやった感じですが、これに苔とかついたらいいかも？

Iさんはこんな形で色々な植物を何百鉢も育てているそうです。それだけ多くの鉢を手入れしていくと5年なんてあっという間かもしれません。　十鉢程見せていただいて、その中から一鉢を選ばせていただいたのですが、どれも小さな鉢なのに元気よく綺麗な花まで咲かせているものもありました。

ゆっくりした時間まで、少し分けてもらったような気がしています。どうもありがとう。

Mr. I, who is an Antique dealer, gave me this pretty 'hornbeam.'  It took 5 years to grow it into this size since he planted the seeds in a pot.  I tried to put it into 'Kawara,' the roof tile.  It looked very unprofessional, but I thought it would be nice if it is covered with moss someday.  Mr. I has grown thousands of plants at home.  I thought that 5 years must be felt like just a short while for Mr. I.  He gave me a hint for the sense of graceful 'slow life.'

Usually, by the name, Kilim, we think of the rugs.  But if you go to ROGOBA Shop, you can find more items made by Kilim, such as the table runners, cushion covers.  We have recommended them to our customers since all of these items go well with the  Japanese antiques.  They are all hand made, so every single item is unuique.  For this, same can be said to the antiques.  If you would like to purchase Kilims, we would be happy to introduce the Kilim Meister, Mr. Nishikawa.  Mr. Nishikawa has been enthusiastic to deal with Kilims and his knowledge related to Kilim is enormous.  We are sure you will be able to find your 'only one' Kilim.

Replant / 植え替え

I decided to replant my asparagus since it grew bigger day by day.  I bought the pots at the 'home-center,' and worked on it in front of our shop.  To cover the pots, I used the bronz Hiire, , , I thought it could have been the Blue and White Hiire, but unfortunately(or fortunately?) we didn't have any ones in suitable size in our shop.  But anyhow, we can enjoy the growth of our asparagus!!

このところ爽やかな良い天気が続いています。　梅雨前の貴重な時間です。

我が家のアスパラガス、日に日に大きくなってきたのでそろそろ植え替えをと思い、

早速店先で行動開始

素焼きのポットをホームセンターで購入し、鉢カバーには　コレ　　火入れです。

Lucie Rie A Retrospective/ ルーシー・リー展

Today, I fulfilled my longing to see 'Lucie Rie A Retrospective in the National Art Center'.

I was so excited to see all of her works. Her outstanding sense of balance & colors are miracle.  Especially, I was so happy to watch VTR presented by BBC on the screen there.  I could see how to make her beautiful works and her delighted  look on her face when she met her works from the kiln

I love her works because they have strong taste, but I think they are all nice in any space because they have very neat & quiet atomosphere

I know it is impossible for me to buy her work, but I dream to touch it and try to display....

今日は念願の新国立美術館で開催されている　ルーシー・リー展へ行ってきました。　やはり素晴らしいですね。　今回はBCCで放送されたインタビューをスクリーンで上映していたので、しばし見入っていました。　轆轤をまわして土を操る姿や、窯出しの光景を紹介していましたが、80歳とはとても思えませんでした　

彼女の作品は強い個性があるにもかかわらず、他のものの美しさを邪魔しない静かさがあるところが、私は好きです。　彼女の気品なのでしょう。　　それでいて、ウワァッ、と言わせてしまう程の可愛らしいものも作ってしまう。　窯出しをして、出来上がった作品と向き合っている彼女は新しいおもちゃに出会ったような可愛らしい女の子の表情でした

かつて、彼女の作品を少し真似てみようとトライしましたが・・・出来上がったのは見るも無残な・・・ああ、もう忘れたい・・・　でも、轆轤を回す姿を見てクスリ・・・。私とおんなじ、首も一緒に動いてる・・・

これからはもっと美術館に足を運ぼうと思います。　今はオルセー美術館展、その次はマン・レイ・・・。　きっと何か良い刺激になるはず

BBQ party in the Embassy garden part Ⅱ

After enjoying BBQ food,  we could have more fun!!  The guests brought  cheese cake & scone....yummy... It was good I saved room for dessert

For the people who are still drinking wine, the shelled macademia nuts were served.  But  they were so HARD...   I don't know how to explain in English.... the shell was just like stone,and It took much time to break it.  The man who brought it said, 'The more we do the efforts, the more tasteful it would be.'.  I understand it....

I asked him where we can buy it, and got it yesterday.

But...It is almost STONE...   I can't break the shell by myself...

お酒飲みの旦那衆にはこちらの世界一殻が硬いといわれるマカデミアナッツ　　万力で一個、一個　挟んで殻を割りみんなでポリポリ・・・

これを持参した旦那さん曰く、「苦労して食べるから美味しんですよ～」　　

な～るほど

売っているお店を紹介してもらい早速購入しました。

BBQ party in the Emabassy Garden

Last Sunday, we were luckily invited to BBQ party by our customer who lives in Australian Embassy.  It was our first time to enjoy the family BBQ party in the Embassy garden.  It was FANTASTIC    We have never seen the BIG BBQ set in Tokyo, of course(ours is just like a small basin...)  Her husband, P-san, cooked many beautiful dishes easily & quickly!  I know it is the most important job for Australian husbands    I brought 'Chirashi Sushi' and hope they enjoyed it, too.

Some more families joined it and enjoyed the conversation.  To my surprise, all of them speak Japanese!!  Some of them speak Japanese like native speakers!  They are very kind to try to speak Japanese for me  Thank you soooo much!

It was our great experience and my family & I really enjoyed it ..... Many thanks for this wonderful time, Mr.& Mrs. A!!!

先週末、オーストラリア大使館にお勤めのお客様に誘われBBQを楽しんできました。

他にも数組のファミリーが合流し楽しく談笑

彼女は日本での生活が長く、日本語も堪能。　そのお友達もほとんど全ての人が日本語ペラペラ　　これには正直ビックリしました。日本人の私より上手　

旦那様のPさん　　早速、手際良くBBQの準備。　BBQグリルの大きいこと・・・・。豪快にステーキを焼いてくれました。

私が持っているBBQグリルといえば洗面器くらいのサイズ　トホホ・・・・・羨ましい・・・・・・。

各自持ち寄りのパーティでしたので私はちらし寿司を持参。　

あっという間になくなり大好評　

日曜日の午後。楽しいひとときを過ごすことができました。

Before After Part Ⅳ

This is the living room with the large wall.  Since the pillars and beams are stuck out from the wall, we could imagine how difficult to make the comfortable room.  We decorated 2 big frames on the wall and put the 3 pieces of chests side by side. We were lucky to borrow some frames from Mr.X (he is very famous on our interior decorating page, and his sense of balance to decorate picture frames is miracle!!)  Actually, this space is long and narrow and we wanted to avoid setting the tall cabinet.  The apparently low and wide chest would be effective to keep the narrow shape more comfortable.  It is important to make the point of view lower in the small room.

大きめの壁があり、奥行はあるけれど、幅がやや狭いリビング。　そして梁と柱が・・・。　

古いタイプの建物にはつきものの悩みですよね。ちょっと難しいかな、と思いましたが、三つ重ねの箪笥を横に並べ、ローチェストにして使用、圧迫感をあまり感じさせないものをその上にディスプレイ。　ラッキーなことにMｒ.Xからピッタリの額も借りることが出来ました。視線を低くもっていくことによって、幅の狭さも気にならなくなりました。

逆境を逆手に色々とアイデアを出すのが本当に面白い。　

機会があるごとに掲載したいと思います。

I love Hill's Marche./今週も行ってきました。

I recently go to Hill's Marche in Arkhills every week. Sometimes I lose track of time and am late for going back to the shop to open!
!(sorry..)

Today, I bought fresh & organic lettuce, tomatoes, tasty potatos, Daikon, strawberries, ginger, and turnip harvested this morning

I enjoyed  fresh turnip with salt and boiled leaves with dried whitebait 'Shirasu' which was sent from Kochi pref.  It was tasty!!  The salt which my friend gave me is made in Christmas Island.  It seems to be mellow and a bit sweet and goes nice with the fresh vegetable.  It should be nice for the casual gifts for Christmas.

I can't stop going there on Saturdays because we can expect beautiful summer fruits!!

今日の収穫をご紹介無農薬のレタス、トマトが自慢の農家さんの不揃いトマト、黄色くて甘みのあるジャガイモ、大根、イチゴ、生姜、そして採りたてのカブ

採りたてだから生でも美味しいと言われ、早速持ち帰って白い部分は塩だけつけて　新鮮な葉っぱは、さっと茹でて高知から届いた大きめのしらすと共にいただきました。

友人からいただいたこのお塩はクリスマス島の特別な塩。まろやかで独特な甘みも感じられます。パッケージも可愛らしく、お手軽なクリスマスプレゼントに使えそう

今日はASIJのジャズバンドが演奏する準備をしていました

これからはフルーツの美味しい季節、楽しめそうですね

Today, I would introduce the travelling vendor's chest called, 'Gyosho Tansu'.  I put it next to the couch as a side table.

Its slim shape doesn't take up a large space, and the small drawers are so convenient to organize small personal things.  Also, the mirror, put on the top, well reflects the light from the lamp.  The light fills the whole room....  Will you try it??

Already rainy season? / もう梅雨？？

Unusually, we had the gorgeous weather during the "Golden Week" in Japan.  However, we had too many rainy days in this May after the GW, it is like the rainy season had begun already.  Every year, I always bought blue hydrangea in the rainy season to brighten up our melancholy feelings.  And I bought it already this year.  The Stone Frogs in the picture may remind us of raining, , , it looks as if I look forward to the rain, but no, I don't like the rainy season. I wish we 'll have many sunny days until the true rainy season.

今年のゴールデンウィークは珍しく毎日良いお天気だったのに、その後は気温の上下が激しく、雨も多くまるで梅雨のよう・・・。　五月晴れが大好きなのに、は長く続きませんね。

うっとうしさを、少しでも和らげるために毎年ブルーの紫陽花を梅雨時に買ったりしていますが、今年は一足早く購入してしまいました。　にはやはり蛙　（なんだか梅雨を待ち望んでいるかのようなとりあわせですが・・・・）

もうすぐ本格的な梅雨が到来します。少しでも良いが続きますように・・・。

Yesterday, I found the Mulberry Tabacco Bon, with the cute "Shippo" patterns.  The  bronze Hiire included in the Bon has a very delicate taste.  I will put flowers in it , , , and how shall I do with Tabacco Bon?   Yes, we are living the mechanized life, and have many remote control devices.  And the Tabacco Bon can accommodate most of them!!!   But I wonder if the masters of Tea Ceremony will admit me to use it in this way. . . .

火入れの次は煙草盆。先日、きちんとした作りで七宝紋が可愛らしい桑の煙草盆を仕入れました　中の銅製の火入れも繊細な感じ　火入れは花器にするとして・・・、さて煙草盆はどうしましょう？？

最近の家電は何でもリモコンが付いてきます。　あちこちにリモコンが散らばっていると面倒ですよね。　煙草盆はこれをひとまとめにするにはちょうど良いサイズ

What a happy surprise!! / ちょっとした幸せ♡

I went to Marche at Ark hills in Akasaka last weekend and found cucumbers in the strange shapes.....☆♡☆♡

But I enjoyed  them after cutting them for salad　I don't know how they were grown, but I felt happy because the farmer did the nice job to cheer the people

Of course, our daughter enjoyed them, too, and ate all of them.....   and, I couldn't taste any of them ...

週末、またまたアークヒルズのマルシェへとお買い物に出かけました。　陽気も良かったせいか大盛況！　新鮮な野菜達もキラキラしていました。

そんな中に・・・ありました　変わった形のキュウリ。　一か月ほど前に購入し、ずっと探していました。　切ると見事にハートや星の形が現れます。　

どうやって育てるのかは不明ですが、パーティ料理等に使ってみたら楽しそう　何よりこんなに可愛らしいキュウリを作ってくれる農家の方に敬愛の念を感じます。

また来週、マルシェへ出かける楽しみが増えました。

I would use Hiire as.../火入れ/私ならこう使う・・・

You may have noticed that I began to enjoy describing how to use antique items.  Today, I would like to tell you about the Hiire.  Originally, Hiire, as well as Tabacco-Bon, are the important utencils used in the course of Tea Ceremony.  But they are not used in our daily life.  However, the shape of Hiire seems to be convenient.   I would use it as a plant case, or as a small flower pot.  Since it's small, it would never be an obstacle almost everywhere.   I tried to put the lieves of asparagus in the Raku Hiire ( ￥12,000 for the set of 2. )  The other is thin lieves of Kapok in the Imari Blue and White Hiire(￥8,500.)  I once pruned the kapok stem and put it on the needle point holder, then I found the new root recently.  I will plant it in the soil soon. 

私ならシリーズ・・・なんだかちょっとマイブームになってしまっています

今日は火入れ煙草盆と共に、お茶事などで大切な役割を果たすお道具の一つですが、日常ではなかなか使い道がありません。でもこの形は意外と便利

私はプランターや、小さな花器として使います。テーブルの上でも邪魔になりません。

今日は綺麗な楽のグリーンにこれまた涼しげなアスパラのグリーンを合わせてみました

もう一つは細葉のカポック。鉢植えにしてある木から剪定した部分を剣山に挿して入れてみたら、根っこが出てきました

もう少ししたら土に植え替える予定です

Molza Pleated Screen/ プリーツスクリーン

As Mr.X recommended, we bought Molza pleated screens. It blocks the eyes from outside, but allows gentle sunlight to penetrate it.  Of course, it matches the antiques

Actually, I don't like fabric curtain, because I'm annoyed by the dust on the top of it and I don't like to use 2 layers( thin one & thick one) of it for 1 window

I was looking for something nice for a long time, and now I found it

The price was very reasonable, and it arrived at our apartment in 1 week.  Some people told me that they paid much money for curtain after moving to their new place.  It should be worth trying it before paying much money

Before After Part Ⅲ

This is a strange shaped area in our home  There is a wide window  with a boring view, but we need the sunlight.

How should we show it nicely... ?  Well, we put the wide & low cabinet to show the big window looked like a bay window and hung the Washi paper pleated screen on it.  Can you imagine how hard to find a Tansu whose height fits this wall  I admired my guess-work

I put a pair of the lamps which are changed from the old black lacquered candle sticks.  The volume of the lamps is very good to put on this wide cabinet.  It should be fun to decorate some favorite things in center all through the year.

I will describe about the screen later...

リビングの一角の変わった形の空間

大きく幅のある腰高の窓をカッコ良く見せたい・・・

外の景色はイマイチなので光だけを取り込みたい・・・

そんな希望を叶えてくれたのがこの和紙のプリーツスクリーンと一間の半箪笥

希望のサイズの時代箪笥を見つけるのはとっても難しいだけにこの窓の高さにあまりにピッタリで配置した時は嬉しくて飛び跳ねたくなりました

一間の幅を生かしてランプに加工した古い黒塗の菊燈一対を対称に配置。

中央には季節の花や、お気に入りのモノを置いて楽しめそう

腰高窓、まだまだ楽しめそうです。

Studio MoMo Exhibition / 陶芸クラブ 作陶展

There will be the exhibition of the ceramic ware made by the students of Studio MoMo http://www.momo-s.net/, presided by my master of ceramics, Mr. Momota.  The venue is at Ehrismann Residence, one of the series of Yokohama Seiyoukan, old western style houses.  http://www.yamate-seiyoukan.org/erisumantei.html .  Although I call them 'students,' there are many professionally artistic pieces. It would be wonderful to have a stroll around the area.   Dates: from May 20th to 24th, 2010, 9:30 a.m. ～4:30 p.m. @ Ehrismann Residence, 1-7-44 Motomachi, Naka-ku, Yokohama.

I would use the Ranma as . . / 欄間/私ならこう使う

We've been wondering where to put our PC in our living room.  After thinking of it carefully, we decided to make the desk for the PC.  We put the iron frame and legs to surround an old, small Ranma.  And added the glass top.  It doesn't touch the beam.  This is a small desk, but I hope you could see the Ranma has been revived by the excellent technique of our craftsman.  If you have any inquiry about remake, or special order, please let us know.

PCをリビングに置くか置かないか・・・

悩んだ挙句、他の家具とも調和し、部屋の片隅にピッタリはまるデスクがあれば可という結論に達し・・・、作ってしまいました

考えてみたらそんなデスク、お店で買えるわけがありません

デザインの良い小さい欄間を使い、鉄の枠を欄間に合わせ、特注サイズの脚を作り、ガラスとフレームをピッタリの高さに合わせ完成

オーダーメードだから、部屋の梁の部分にもピッタリ

小さいけれど、職人さんの丁寧な仕事が光る欄間がこんな形で息を吹き返しました

I would use Teaburi as. . ./ 手あぶり/私ならこう使う

This little Teaburi, I liked the unusual pattern and I bought three of them, one for myself.  It is very nice as a wine cooler.  It is hard enough for the shock of hitting the glass bottle.  Today I went to the florist and bought many flowers of early summer. As I looked for the big vase, I am glad to find this Teaburi. Isn't the combination of this fresh green and bright blue gorgeous?   'Inban' Blue &White Small Teaburi: H/21cm, Diameter/22cm ￥8,500.

今日はお花屋さんへ行き、大量の初夏の花を購入。たくさん買い込んだため少しボリュームのある花器を家じゅう探してみたら・・・ムフフ、これだ！ワクワクしながらアレンジしてみました。

Trip to Hakone / 箱根温泉旅行 ♫

We took a trip to Hakone Hot Springs with our family friends.  We thought that, instead of driving, it might be very relaxing to take trains, Odakyu Line and the Mountain Tram. So we reserved the tickets and set off!  It took a little over one hour by Odakyu Romance Car to get Hakone-yumoto station, and we changed to the Hakone Mountain Tram.  The tram went up the mountanous route slowly, and the scenery from the tram was so beautiful with the fresh green leaves.  Then we visited the Hakone Open-Air Museum ( after ?? decades from my last visit.)  Also we went to our favorite sweetshop to buy Onsen-Manju (hotspring steamed sweet bun.)  It was only a two-days trip, but we did a lot more there, and we were all excited throughout the trip, and finally by natural consequences, we got very tired. . .  I can't say that it was relaxing. . .

新緑が美しいこの季節、仲良し家族と一緒に箱根旅行へいってきました。

たまには電車もいいかなと思い、ロマンスカーと登山鉄道を乗り継ぎ、いざ温泉へ・・・・・。

1時間ちょっとで到着。　のんびりとした箱根登山鉄道・・・・・。　沿線の緑が素晴らしい

彫刻の森へ、？十年ぶりに行ってみたり、湯本ではお気に入りのお饅頭屋さんで温泉饅頭を購入

1泊2日でしたが、盛り沢山の内容で癒しにはならず、余計に疲れてしまった・・・・・。

トホホ・・・・。

Flower Basket Lamp / 花籠ランプ入荷！

This Flower Basket Lamp is our original design.  We choose the basket and plan the shape of the shade by making the paper pattern.  It's very difficult to balance the volume of baskets and shades.  Lamps play a very important role as a supporting furniture. Please try!!  . . . We've had hard time to find the nice lamp shade maker. In Japan, the number of skilled craftsmen is getting fewer and fewer . . .We talked about the same thing last year, but  again,  we hope the revival of Japan as a maker of the quality goods.

古い竹花籠を利用し、その形状に合わせシェードを型紙からおこし、制作しています。

Mogmi Tansu / 最上箪笥 入荷しました。

Today, I would like to introduce this Mogami Tansu.  Its front is made of Keyaki(Zelkova) with the fine grain.  Side boards, top board, and the inside of drawers are made of Paulownia(Kiri.)   It can be divided into two pieces; and the height of upper part and the lower part is the same 52cm, therefore, it is nice idea to put the upper and the lower parts side by side.  It will become a nice TV cabinet.

今回ご紹介するこの箪笥。　正面には程良く木目が入った欅材、側板、天板、抽斗内部は桐材をふんだんに使用。

上段、下段がそれぞれ52ｃｍ。スペースにゆとりがあれば是非、横に並べて使用してみてください。　圧迫感がなく使えると思います。

はやりの薄型テレビを置く台としても良いかも・・・・・。

しかし、なんで狭いリビングに巨大なテレビを置きたがるんでしょうかね～・・・・・・。

Marche at Ark Hills / アークヒルズのMarche Part 2

It has been raining and very cold everyday in Tokyo.  But this morning was fine, so we went to the Marche opened every Saturday morning, at the Ark Hills.   Although I couldn't find the famous Heart-shaped and Star- shaped cucumbers(!!!???), and the price of vegetable has been risen because of the bad weather, we enjoyed the colorful Marche in the fresh air.

毎週、土曜日に開催されているアークヒルズのMarche。

お目当てのハート型と星型のキュウリは今回購入できませんでしたが・・・・・（詳細は後日）

この天候不順で価格高騰の野菜ですが朝のお散歩がてら、気分転換にはもってこい

Cordless Blender / コレはお薦め！

This is Cordless Hand Blender Mixxo made by BOSCH.  This is what I longed for.  I finally bought it at my friend's shop.  The great point is "cordless."  It is very frustlating to use one with a cord when preparing a hasty meal in the small kitchen.  It is much more useful and powerful than I expected.  One whole onion can be finely chopped in only 10 seconds, and we can also chop the small amount, such as a piece of garlic or a remnant of carrot.  It's the best among many kitchen machines

買いました　ずっと欲しかったんです。コレ、BOSCHのコードレス・ハンディブレンダー

コードレス　ここがポイント　　この手の製品はいざ使おうと思うけどキッチンの限られたスペースで電源コードと格闘するのがストレスでした・・・・・。

ちょっと値段は高いけどそこはBOSCH製品。　パワーも十分だし、デザインもGOOD

友人のお店で思い切って購入しました

その使いやすさに大満足　　料理の面倒な下ごしらえはあっという間に終了です。玉ねぎ一個分のみじん切りがたったの１０秒！大嫌いだった、にんにくのみじん切り1かけ分もきちんと出来ます。
